ComiCon 2010 ... Ojectivity Check

Postby dodger_winslow on Sat Jul 24, 2010 3:41 pm

So ... does ComiCon seem boring as all hell this year without Jeff around to spice things up? Maybe that's just me. I probably need to get my objectivity meter checked again ...

Although Joss making all the Nate fans explode was kinda fun.

Oh man that Joss thing was crazy! Like Nathan said, people hear what they wanna hear. Best was Nathan showing up in disguise asking Joss if he has a favorite actor. Ha...that was so great. I had to wonder if Joss was in on it or if he just recognized Nathan's voice.

Nathan said today that he doesn't even want to play Ant-man. He said it wouldn't be his choice...he wants to do a remake of Greatest American Hero....lol
I can totally see that except for the blond perm....

Too bad Jeff couldn't have made an appearence at the Hammer Films panel for The Resident.

Yes, they do (on people hearing what they want to hear). Although Joss loves to help them along in that regard, too. He's a little dickens. *snerk* I doubt Nate told Joss he was going to do a guest shot ... would be much more fun for him to think he could pull something over on him. Yeah. Like that's gonna happen. Joss is the sharpest tool in the shed. By a LONG shot. (But don't tell him a called him a tool at all, even a sharp one LOL).

Greatest American Hero. That would crack me up more if it didn't put me to tears over Bob Culp. :tear: Not sure I could watch GAH without him. Would be like trying to watch I Spy without either he or Cosby.

*sniff*

Oh yeah Culp was great....and you know he visited the Castle set shortly before he passed away and Nathan got to meet him.

I Spy sucked...but then I think the casting sucked.....Nathan could probably pull off the Greatest American Hero.

Joss = Sharp Tool :giggle:

I think sometimes it is BEST to leave the original shows where they belong. I Spy with Culp and Cosby was a groundbreaking show in it's time, I am not sure it could EVER have the same effect or meaning as it did then. I CAN see Nathan as the Greatest American Hero, he would NOT have to be blond. He has great timing and sense of humor.

IF there is a panel on the Resident movie, does that mean we will FINALLY get a release date????
Believe positively in yourself.........then others will too!!!!

We can Hope! I think Hammer films was promoting a few releases not just The Resident so who knows what their agenda is.

Here's a question....a Joss project + Jeff? Cool, Not Cool? Joss is pretty particular about his stuff or so I've read. He doesn't allow for too much deviation so I suppose the question is, would one of his projects be too limiting for an actor like Jeff?

Here's another question....what makes Joss go back to the same actors time and time again? Take Nathan Fillion for example.....Joss seems to love him...why? What does Joss look for in a actor?

Ok and how about this....Joss has recently signed on to direct the Avengers. He's gonna be working people like Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johanssen, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth. This is kinda a big deal for Joss, no? I mean it jumps him into the major leagues so to speak....opinions?

I did not know that (about the visit to the Castle set). I loved Bob Culp madly. I SPY is one of the best shows ever made. The movie? Was never made. I have erased it from my own personal reality.

I don't think Joss is limiting to anyone. I'd love to see the two of them work together. Smart, funny, talented men both behind and in front of the camera? Sounds like a plan to me.

What I'd really love to see would be Jeff playing a role Joss wrote specifically for him. Joss has extraordinary vision when it comes to comic tragedy and complex duality. Spike was originally just a guest shot, but Joss connected with Marsters on a music level and look where the character went once Joss was writing it with Marsters, specifically, in mind as the actor for whom he was crafting his world.

And right now? Joss is doing a lot of writing with his lil bro Zack, who wrote for Deadwood and now writes for Fringe and who got his master's degree in TV at the knee of Milch. Were the Brothers Whedon put their heads together on something written specifically with Jeff in mind? Yeah. I could probably die happy then. What they'd come up with? Is anybody's guess. But the one thing you can be sure of is that it would kick some major ass. Can you imagine? Deadwood meets Firefly starring John Winchester with just a pinch of Eddie Blake made by Warner Brothers? To quote Jayne ... I'll be in my bunk.

Here's another question....what makes Joss go back to the same actors time and time again? Take Nathan Fillion for example.....Joss seems to love him...why? What does Joss look for in a actor?

I would imagine Joss goes back to the same company of actors for the same reason David Milch does: he trusts them with his work and knows their secret pockets of mad skilz. And he likes working with them ... their work ethic, their sense of humor, their level of dedication, their compatibility factor with other actors ... As a showrunner, you run into someone who consistently takes your work and gives you back something that blows you out of the water AND is great fun to work with? Pfffft. That's a no brainer. Grab 'em and hold onto 'em and write 'em good stuff to keep 'em.

Oh, don't let Joss's golly-gee-shucks demeanor fool you. He's already as major league as major league gets, particularly when it comes to genre. My guess would be that most of those names you reeled off are pretty fucking excited to be working with Joss ... and that it was a much bigger coup for The Avengers to land Joss than it was for Joss to land The Avengers. Although it does seem like a mutually win-win scenario, as long as Marvel lets Joss do it the way Joss wants to do it.
